Power Factor Correction Topology
This topology uses a boost converter between the rectifier and output inverter to provide power factor correction. Power factor correction is becoming increasingly important in electronic equipment. PFC provides the advantages of low line harmonics, reduced input current, reduced kVA requirement, improved line efficiency, and improved electromagnetic compatibility.
The boost topology also has the added benifit of increasing the maximum inverter output voltage and universal input voltage. The benefits are greatest for medium power single phase drives (0.3 - 2.5 kW).
